About the positionDue to continual growth and development, the City is seeking a full time Technical Officer – Turf and Irrigation to join the Parks Technical team. The position contributes to the effective management of the City’s sports turf and irrigation infrastructure whilst providing technical advice to the business as required.With a proactive and team driven approach you will possess knowledge and experience in sports turf and irrigation maintenance and management.You will be responsible for:
- Developing, implementing and evaluating turf management, irrigation programs and plan that sustains and improves the City’s active and passive parks.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient use of the City’s ground water resources through irrigation scheduling, inspections and auditing of irrigation systems.
- Managing designated turf management and irrigation infrastructure contracts, including the development of technical specifications and the procurement process, ensuring that the delivery of contracts meets contractual specifications and obligations
- Researching, analysing and reviewing turf and irrigation maintenance and horticultural issues, identifying emerging issues, developing evidence-based options and recommending solutions.
- Providing advice, guidance and technical support to customers and stakeholders on turf management and irrigation infrastructure issues in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
- Demonstrating high and proactive concern for health, safety, environment, community and the City’s reputation.
- Scheduling and undertaking site and safety inspections to ensure works are undertaken in line with specification and contractual requirements.
- Providing input to technical specifications and documentation.
- Managing designated reactive sports lighting maintenance in area of responsibility, ensuring the delivery of service meets the operational requirements.
- Liaising with customers and stakeholders to deliver service excellence, ensuring that information is accurate, consistent, clearly communicated and issues are resolved in a timely manner.
About youThe successful appointee must be passionate about the local community, work well in a team environment and have the skills and abilities to produce quality turf and irrigation outcomes.As a collaborative member of the Parks Technical team, you will be able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills which enables the team to operate as a proactive and cohesive unit. Applicants must be able to demonstrate through examples within their CV and covering letter how their work experience and abilities address the following selection criteria: * Minimum Certificate III (Trade) Qualification in relevant discipline such as Sports Turf Management, Irrigation or Horticulture.
- Relevant experience in a similar role in operational turf and irrigation maintenance.
- Intermediate computing, numeracy and literacy skills
- Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
- Advanced customer service skills.
- Advanced communication and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate negotiation and influencing skills.
- Intermediate research and analysis skills.
- Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace including hazard identification in active and passive parks.
- National Construction Induction Certificate (White Card).
- Current C class Driver’s License is required
