The Regulation Directorate sits within the Transport Policy and Regulation Division and is responsible for driving the Government’s regulation and policy initiatives and ensuring appropriate compliance, behaviour and safe access across our transport networks.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader to join our Driver Standards team, who will play a key role in supporting road safety targets by delivering high-quality services within the driver training and assessment industry.In this role, you will:
- Lead and inspire a small team of Assessment Officers (metropolitan and regional), managing rostering, test routes, and ensuring driver training and assessment standards are upheld.
- Provide expert guidance and mentoring, overseeing audits, practical driving tests, regulatory assessments, and the training and certification of Authorised Examiners, including heavy vehicle upgrades.
- Collaborate with industry stakeholders, delivering clear, expert advice on legislation, regulations, and departmental policies relevant to driver training and assessment.
- Handle enquiries from the public, industry members, and stakeholders, both in writing and verbally, ensuring professional and timely communication.
- Support investigations into the performance of Motor Driving Instructors and Authorised Examiners, preparing statements and, when necessary, providing evidence in court.

To ensure success in this role, we are seeking candidates with the following licenses, qualifications and technical skills:
- Driver’s Licence (heavy vehicles highly desirable).
- Hold a current Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics – Road Transport – Driving Instruction (highly desirable).
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable).
- Be experienced and proficient as a Motor Driving Instructor or Authorised Examiner.
- Have experience in delivering training and operating heavy vehicles.
Special Conditions
Prior to employment with the Department, the successful candidate will be required to provide:
- A National Police Check (NPC) which is required to be renewed every three years.
- A Department for Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check (WWCC) which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.
Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.Tenure of Vacancy
