Salary: £23,893 – £24,702 a year pro rata
Hours per week: casual
Contract type: Permanent4 x 20 hours,1 x 24 hours,2 x 30 hours,1 x 32 hours,2 x 37 hoursLuton Council is seeking passionate and dedicated Support Workers to join our dynamic team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs, while fostering independence, dignity, and choice.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide person-centered care, attending to physical, emotional, and social needs.
  • Support individuals in accessing a wide range of activities and services within the community.
  • Act as an advocate for individuals, ensuring their voices are heard in all aspects of daily life.
  • Assist new staff members and contribute to team development.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations and liaise with relevant parties to ensure safety.
  • Identify and take appropriate action in cases of discrimination.
  • Work flexibly across different locations to meet the needs of the service.

About you
Essential Requirements:

  • Experience: Some experience in community work or social care services, either in a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Communication: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Team Player: Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality services.
  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities and the services that support them.
  • Advocacy: Able to converse fluently with the public and provide effective help or advice.
  • Physical Support: Ability to lift, move, and handle using aids, following health and safety guidelines.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel across service bases in Luton.
  • Desire to obtain a QCF Level 3 in Care (training and support provided).
  • Flexibility to cover unforeseen circumstances and emergency situations.

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
