About the roleAs the Ranger in Charge, you will lead a small team of 2-3 people in a remote and isolated location and coordinate, implement and oversee a diverse work program.Located approximately halfway between Tasmania and Antarctica, Macquarie Island is a very remote workplace often referred to as living in a ‘nature documentary’. - Be certified as fit for Macquarie Island service by the Australian Antarctic Division’s Polar Medicine Unit following tests conducted on its behalf by a nominated medical practitioner.
- Be rated as suitable for Macquarie Island service by the Australian Antarctic Division’s Polar Medicine Unit following psychological assessments conducted on its behalf by a nominated professional provider.
- Provide First Aid certificate.
- Holder of a current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
Desirable requirements
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- Relevant experience in the management of sub-Antarctic reserved areas or similar land management reserves experience would be an advantage.
- A Wilderness First Aid Certificate.
- A coxswain (near coastal) certificate or equivalent.
- An ‘A’ or ‘R’ class Australian Bird and Bat Banding Scheme (ABBBS) banding authority (or relevant experience allowing one to be obtained before deployment to Macquarie Island).
