DescriptionResponds to structure fires and other incidents to which dispatched. Upon arrival at fire scene, performs necessary duties of firefighter as directed by a Fire Department Officer. Also, may be assigned related duties such as equipment maintenance, truck driving, building maintenance etc.Examples of Duties
- Carries a pager and responds to incidents as dispatched.
- Performs normal and related firefighter duties at the fire scene.
- Assists with proper maintenance of fire vehicles, equipment, building, and other departmental items.
- Participates in regular and special drills and training sessions as required.
- Actively participates in Community Involvement Programs delivered by the department.
- Miscellaneous duties/responsibilities as required or assigned.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Must always be available (twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week). Required to respond to at least 60% of all calls.
- Required to always carry fire department pager.
- Required to live within a reasonable distance from assigned station.
- Must attain Michigan Firefighter I certification.
- Must be physically able to perform required duties and to pass agility test.
- Required to attend regular and special training classes.
- Required to maintain the minimum attendance average specified in department SOGs as a condition of continued employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.
- Constantly exposed to weather, including extreme heat and wet/humid conditions.
- Occasionally exposed to extreme cold.

Supplemental InformationThe City of Holland Pension Plan is through the Municipal Employee’s Retirement System (MERS). The Defined Contribution Plan is a qualified pension plan under section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. This plan allows you and the City of Holland to make pre-tax contributions to your individual account that accumulates tax deferred. The City will contribute 6% of your salary, you can choose to contribute 2%, which in turn the City will match 2% for a total of 10%. There is a five-year vesting for all City contributions.
