About the OpportunityWe currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Surgical Services team as a Optometrist, where you will be responsible for:

  • Perform ophthalmic workups, including cycloplegic refractions and dilated fundus examinations.
  • Work in consultant-led and allied health-led clinics to deliver high-quality ophthalmic care.
  • Collaborate with orthoptists, optometrists, and ophthalmologists to create and implement appropriate management plans.
  • Develop and maintain strong links with the wider Optometry community in South Australia.
  • Create and manage feedback pathways for referrers.
  • Provide education opportunities in paediatric ophthalmology.
  • Promote comprehensive assessments and evidence-based management of eye conditions in pre-literate children and patients with additional needs.
  • Serve as a key clinical tutor for optometry students and post-graduate optometrists during placements

About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification and Master of Optometry which entitles registration with the Optometry Board of Australia and qualified to administer, obtain, possess, prescribe, supply or use topical schedule 2, 3 or 4 medicines for the purposes of the practice of optometry
  • Minimum of twelve months post-graduate experience of children’s eye care
  • Able to perform accurate cycloplegic refraction in children under 7 years of age
  • Experience with a wide range of optometric testing procedures
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers and staff at all levels
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary work environment, and recognising the benefit of this to our patients and their clinical outcomes
  • Evidence based knowledge including treatment of amblyopia (PEDIG, MOTAS and ROTAS studies)
