The Kiloh Centre has a total of 46 mental health beds for male and females. This is an exciting role supporting the nursing team and delivering high quality care to consumers.What you’ll be doingThe vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Nursing Unit Manager Level 1 is a registered nurse position, managing the clinical operations of a busy and fast-paced mental health unit. Kiloh General Ward has a total of 30 sub-acute mental health beds for male and female consumers. The unit provides a variety of interventions and therapies for consumers who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness or disorder and requiring care within an inpatient setting. A person admitted to the unit can either be voluntary or involuntary under the NSW Mental Health Act (2007).This is an exciting role supporting the nursing team and delivering high quality care to consumers. The purpose of the Nursing Unit Manager is to:

  • lead, direct and co-ordinate consumer care
  • ensure the practice of nursing and/or midwifery is safe and efficient
  • provide clinical leadership and supervision
  • maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvement initiatives.
  • lead and co-ordinate the nursing and support the multi-disciplinary team
  • ensuring that the service is effective, through achievement of outcomes and KPIs

As the leader of the unit, the NUM will demonstrate her/his capability through attitude, skills, behaviour and attributes, namely:

  • broad nursing/midwifery experience and knowledge;
  • understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery;
  • professional integrity;
  • ethical conduct;
  • accountability;
  • advocacy;
  • enabling others;
  • cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective team work.

  • Demonstrated advanced leadership skills in an acute inpatient setting.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills that demonstrate the ability to engage and manage teams.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain a positive workplace culture.
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience in acute mental health inpatient setting.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence, or ability and willingness to travel if required for the role.
