It is!Community centre programs bring diverse communities together to improve community life and reduce poverty, isolation and food insecurity. The Child Minder will provide child minding at community centres while parents attend programs and events.** We are hiring for a contract position from November 2024 to February 2026.There will be no regularly scheduled hours of work; you will work on an as needed and as available basis to meet the needs of the programs. You must be available to work a minimum of three (3) shifts per month. Hours of work will generally fall within weekday, daytime hours, with occasional evening and weekend hours to support the needs of the program.Successful completion of a Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) is required. **Key Responsibilities:· To care for infants, toddlers and preschoolers of program participants during adult programs at the community centres, while parents are in the same building· To communicate effectively with parents of the children· To work independently and to discern when to consult with parents when needed for child safety and wellness· To consult with program lead staff at the beginning of each shift and as needed throughout the program· To check in with parents at the beginning and end of each program time regarding any concerns· To set up and maintain a child friendly and safe space for programming· To ensure cleanliness of space and toys· To monitor and ensure safe interactions between children· To complete administrative tasks such as taking attendance and to keep accurate written records as required· To participate in the program evaluation processJob Specific Knowledge/Skills:· Ability to care for young children in a safe, caring, supportive and understanding mannerEducation/Experience:· Previous child-minding experience preferred, preferably with young childrenCritical Skills:· Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected· Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem-solving skills required· Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members· Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs· Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery· Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude· Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges· Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keepingCompensation:At House of Friendship, we know that our team members are the key to the success of our organization and our ability to provide essential services to the community.
