What is the role?Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for Executive Level roles (Band 9) within Pacific Command. A merit pool will be created for upcoming vacancies and higher duties opportunities. While the positions are Canberra based, consideration will be afforded to flexible and remote working arrangements.As a central contributor to the Australian Government’s Pacific Strategy, Pacific Command leads AFP’s efforts in maintaining regional stability, security and capability in the Pacific through collaboration with Pacific policing partners, and leading efforts to prevent and disrupt transnational crime threats.The Pacific Strategy branch within Pacific Command is responsible for design, leading and primarily implementing the Pacific Policing Initiative, as well as driving broader Pacific strategy, coordination and engagement. Sections within the Pacific Strategy branch include Pacific Strategy and Coordination, Pacific Policing Initiative Design and Implementation, Strategic Effects Team and the Pacific Policing Infrastructure Program. All sections engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including Senior Executive, Government counterparts and Pacific policing partners.All Coordinator roles within Pacific Strategy are responsible for enhancing whole of Australian Government (WoAG) coordination to support the implementation of regional law enforcement activities consistent with priorities of the Pacific policing partners.As a Coordinator within the Pacific Strategy branch, you will be part of a dynamic team driving and will play a key role in shaping and delivering the Pacific strategy and Pacific Policing Initiative. This includes driving strategic dialogue through police-to-police and with WoAG partners, provision of policy advice and briefings to support Pacific-focused forums and summits, building a sustainable governance model and enhancing processes to support to project delivery, as well as broader community engagement strategies.Your role will be instrumental in enhancing processes to deliver effective client-service, change management, leadership and mentoring to help the team achieve its potential.Executive Level employees must also ensure the achievement of outcomes are in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.What will you do?In this role you will:

  • Lead, manage, coach and mentor a range of team leaders
  • Coordinate and oversee timely, accurate and concise briefs and advice on Pacific policing, for AFP Executive, government partners and other key stakeholders.
  • Build and foster collegiate networks with WoAG, internal AFP and Pacific partners.
  • Ensure change management processes and procedures are executed effectively.
  • Manage and support the delivery of key projects in support of the AFP Pacific Strategy and priorities of Pacific policing partners. This includes overseeing all phases of the strategy design elements, project management lifecycle for major initiatives and cross-functional activities to ensure quality outputs which are measured and are on time and budget.
  • Understand and create opportunities for optimal design and project delivery processes.
  • Develop and support corporate and strategic priorities for Pacific Command in accordance with the broader AFP strategic direction.
  • Enabling and supporting individual growth, career opportunities and succession planning through development capability within the team.
  • Cultivate an environment of high performance, positivity, responsiveness and client service.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven ability to lead and engage high-performing teams.
