Desired Skills and ExperienceThe RoleThe Research and Clinic Nurse plays a key role in supporting projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians and researchers in the area of mental health, investigating novel treatments for depression and other mental health conditions. This position sits within the Sydney Neurostimulation Centre (SyNC) at the Black Dog Institute and is responsible for organising and implementing the services, treatments and procedures provided by the SyNC clinic as well as providing some technical and research assistance to senior staff. Treatments include esketamine/ketamine, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation, and related treatments. The position works collaboratively with the SyNC team in neurostimulation and interventional psychiatry treatments to ensure the consistent delivery of services to the highest standards as informed by the latest research advances.Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinic Patient/Participant Liaison
- Systemically assess patients, collect and asses data, and identify patients’ nursing needs
- Communicate with all patients and clients of the SyNC clinic in a professional manner.
- Provide excellent care and timely response to issues as they arise.
- Coordinate and manage appointments.
- Maintain and regularly update records.
- In consultation with team clinicians, ensure appropriate follow up/resolution of clinical issues, incidents and developments.
- Perform treatment procedures involving ketamine/esketamine (may also include transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation) appropriate to level of credentialling.
- Contribute to team meetings and ward rounds to facilitate patient care goals and research objectives.
- Deliver treatment and conduct research procedures including novel treatments for depression including esketamine/ketamine (may also involve transcranial magnetic stimulation, and transcranial direct current stimulation) and neuropsychological testing.
- Ensure patient/participant records are maintained and updated.
- Assist in data collection and management.
- Ensure all project related reports (and other materials) are prepared within agreed time frames.
Finance
- Monitor clinic patient payments and liaise with the administration team for invoicing of patients.
Administration
- Maintain current knowledge of clinical practice and research in nursing.
- Actively participate in identifying areas of nursing practice where improvements can be made to the quality of nursing care.
- Participate in continuing education activities, committees and professional groups.
- Ensure all clinic and research procedures are in compliance with applicable policies/guidelines and protocols.
- Respond to and manage enquiries and referrals.
- Ensure clinic and research rooms are in presentable order.
Skills & Experience RequiredEssential Criteria * Bachelors degree in Nursing
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including the ability to liaise with a diverse group of people.
- Proven effective record keeping skills (both paper and electronic), including the ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction, show initiative and work effectively as a member of a clinical team.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of patient confidentiality and discretion.
- Demonstrated competence in managing and delivering patient care and ensuring safety.
- Excellent organisational skills and time management skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to conduct research as evidenced by involvement in other research projects, peer reviewed publications, and/or experience of data collection and participant interviews.
- Strong computing skills with Microsoft Office and data/statistical software.
- Ability to demonstrate values of respect and compassion in workplace behaviour.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
Desirable Criteria * Experience working in mental health care service/setting.
- Experience with interventional psychiatry or neurostimulation techniques (Ketamine, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation; Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation).
